Kyoshi Ante Brannbacka and Kyoshi Olaf Krey both graduated from Hanshi McCarthy's tertiary Martial Arts instructors program (the first in its kind), that ran at the College of Natural Medicine in Brisbane, Australia, from 1998 onwards (see image).
Both instructors represent Hanshi Patrick McCarthy (9th Dan) and the International Ryukyu Karate Research Society (IRKRS) in their respective countries (Finland and Germany), where they are responsible for having built extremely strong followings over the years.
In 2006 both Kyoshi Brannbacka and Kyoshi Krey were invited to teach a weekend seminar in the UK, which was held at the High Wycombe Judo centre. The seminar was well received and indirectly led to the first KU dojo in the UK opening its doors in 2009.
This year's course will be held at the Somers Town Community Sports Centre in Camden, 134 Chalton Street London NW1 1RX. Somers Town covers a small local area surrounding Chalton Street, where the Sports Centre is located.
Bordered by the railway approaches of Kings Cross St Pancras Station, Somers Town gained some fame for its impressive list of notable residents and a number of films that are set there, most notably Shane Meadows 'Somers Town'.
Somers Town was mentioned in English literature by Charles Dickens who is said to have known the area well.
The nearest London Underground stations are Mornington Crescent, Euston and King's Cross St. Pancras.
National Rail services operate from London King's Cross, London St. Pancras and London Euston stations.
St. Pancras International is terminus for Eurostar services.
There are many hotels and hostels in the area, just type in NW1 1RX and look for 'Chalton Street, London NW1 1RX, United Kingdom' to find a suitable place nearby.
Camden town lies only a stone's throw away from Somers Town and is famous in its own right for its hostels among other.
It IS wise to BOOK EARLY as accommodation here fills up early.
